🌿 Welcome to Seedlings! 🌿
🌿 Sessions are run by Carly and Nyrees who is a local Permaculture Practitioner who is developing and maintaining the community garden at Bleakhouse Library and other local projects with Sandwell and Birmingham Permaculture Network and The Wildwood Emporium (A social enterprise off shoot of SABPermaculture).
🌿 Nyrees has kindly agreed to facilitate some home ed nature sessions fortnightly at Bleakhouse Library garden, Oldbury.
🌿 We also now have monthly Saturday sessions held at Londonderry allotments.
🌿 ***PRE-BOOKING ESSENTIAL***
Your place isn’t confirmed until your payment is received and places are allocated on a first-come-first-served basis.
🌿 To book, message us through the contacts page answering the questions below and we will then send you more information.
Are you home educating within the West Midlands?
What are the ages of your children?
🌿 Sessions are child lead and consist of a mixture of structured, semi-structured and unstructrued activities with rotating themes each session.
🌿 Examples of what we’ll cover at the sessions:
– bushcraft
– nature art
– planting and gardening
– plant identification
– making bug hotels/bat boxes
– minibeast hunting
– food preparation
– learning about where our food comes from
– pond dipping
– garden development and design
– access to free seeds to take home from the seed bank
🌿 Children will also have the opportunity to contribute to the SAB website if they are interested, including:
– guest blogs
– photography
– art
– poetry and creative writing
– video
🌿 All ages are welcome.
🌿 There are 15 places for ages 2+ at each session. The number of places available are currently limited to ensure the group isn’t too big to get the most out of the structured activity/ies offered at each session.
This isn’t to say under 2s aren’t welcome – absolutely, please bring them along!
It’s also not to say that they can’t join the structured activity if you believe they will want to – they are more than welcome.
All this will do is free up some more of the bookable places for over 2s so that hopefully more people can come who would like to but missed out.
🌿 Bleakhouse Library is actually closed on a Friday but we have special permission to be there.
Please help us continue this fantastic relationship with the library by being responsible for your own kiddies at all times, particularly inside the library.
If you have a Sandwell Library card, we have permission from the librarians to return and check out books at the kiosks if we’d like to.
🌿 If you could bring a snack or 2 to share with the group it would be most appreciated, as would bringing along your own plates and cups to use in the interests of reducing our waste (but I will bring a few paper ones just in case).
🌿 Since the garden is ongoing in its development your family have the opportunity to be part of shaping its success by taking part in Seedlings.
🌿 Your payments will also be going towards helping to buy tech equipment for use by the group, such as a weather station kit and cameras with time-lapse capture.
